Pensions & Investments: “CQS chief plows his support into sustainable farm management”
Pensions & Investments reports on CQS Founder and CEO Sir Michael Hintze’s investments in agriculture in Australia, noting that sustainability and environmental responsibility are integral to the operation of his agricultural properties.
“When I started to buy farmland in 2007, there was a clear secular view that the global population would grow from 7 (billion) to 9 billion, with Asia a driver, with rising living standards and globalization,” Mr. Hintze said in an email.
He soon realized “farming is complicated. It comes down to operating farming effectively. You can't control the weather, currency or the global market price. What can be controlled is how farms are operated.”
To handle his diverse portfolio of farmland, Sir Michael established MH Premium Farms (MHPF), a professionally-managed agricultural company.
MHPF has also set its sights on helping to address Australia’s shortage of agronomists by funding an undergraduate scholarship for students studying rural science or agriculture.
